FAST – Families and Schools Together

On 1st February 2017 we celebrated the end of a second very successful FAST programme at Parkwood Primary School. Over the past year 42 Parkwood families have attended and completed the 8 week programme. FAST is fantastic programme which allows families to spend quality, fun time together within the school environment.

Over an eight week period families attend a weekly 2 ½ hour session after school. The whole family is invited including all siblings, parents and extended family who live within the family home. Each session repeats the same fun activities which include our exclusive FAST song, scribbles and emotion charades. A fully funded meal is provided by a different family each week and enjoyed by all. All the children enjoy an hours play supervised by school staff whilst parents and adult family members have some time for a brew and a chat as part of “parent time”. Each week a family will win a personalised family hamper worth £25.

It is hoped that FAST will run at Parkwood Primary School every year and will be targeted towards our Year 1 children. We hope to start our third cycle in January 2018.

As part of the programme we have several volunteering opportunities which include Parent Partners. Parent Partners are an integral part of the programme and are heavily involved in delivering the programme directly to families. All Parent Partners receive full training and support. If you may be interested in becoming a Parent Partner or would have any other queries about the programme please contact Caroline Patterson, Parental Involvement Worker, via the school office for further information.

Quotes from families –

"We really enjoy FAST.  It's a great way for us to spend quality time together, especially due to work commitments.  We love FAST!" - Trish and Zarah Bailey.

“I feel I have a better relationship with the school. Before (FAST) I would drop the children off and not speak to anyone but now I feel I am part of the school community and I speak to parents in the playground, speak to teacher and will come to other activities”.

“I enjoyed bonding more with the kids.   I loved cooking the meal and winning the hamper was amazing”!

I like special play with the boys. I see a sparkle in their eyes which I don’t see at other times”.
