Hello and welcome to the Nursery classroom

We hope you find our web page informative, keeping you up to date with the latest events happening within the Nursery setting.

Budding Artists

Children in Nursery and Reception have collaborated on a special work of art which has been entered in the Bradford Young Open art competition.  Their work will be displayed in the Young Open exhibition at Cartwright Hall gallery in Bradford from 1st July to 29th October 2017.

Our project, Goat your groove on, you crafty animals!, has involved a study of animals, the ways that they move and the tracks and prints that they make. The children used the things that they had learnt to help them be imaginative when using different movements to apply paint to the canvas. The opportunity to use a wide range of tools has helped them to develop more skillful and accurate movements to create different patterns and prints. The children have enjoyed experimenting and have developed their own techniques giving them more confidence to make marks independently. Engaging children in this type of active learning is vital to help them strengthen muscles in their arms and hands in preparation for being able to hold a pencil with good control before they begin to write.

Dough Disco!

Our children have been taking part in Dough Disco each week to help develop their fine motor, gross motor and coordination skills.  We listen to songs that we like and make up new moves together.

This is our fool-proof playdough recipe - you can join in the Dough Disco at home!

  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
  • Up to 1.5 cups boiling water (add a little bit at a time, until it feels just right)
  • food colouring (optional)

  • Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil in a large mixing bowl
  • Add food colouring to the boiling water then pour into the dry ingredients a little bit at a time
  • Stir continuously until it becomes a sticky, combined dough
  • Allow it to cool down then take it out of the bowl and knead it vigorously for a couple of minutes until all of the stickiness has gone
